Most people would jump at the chance to take a trip far away to somewhere nice, but the cost of flights and accommodations can really add up, making a grand trip abroad out of reach for many. Fortunately, there are ways to win a holiday that evens the playing field and allows travel to be accessible to everyone. It may seem like all luck, but a little bit of research and effort may be all it takes to get you on that flight to Australia, Dubai or even Belize for a week or two. Two Kinds of Contests There are two kinds of competitions – the ones that take little time to enter and those that require some time and effort. The easier the entry requirements, the slimmer your chances of winning because easy means many people will likely participate. Enter the more challenging contests and your chances of winning increase. For example, one that requires a simple fill in of your contact information for a really great prize of, say, an all-expenses trip for two to New Zealand, is going to be very difficult to win, especially if the contest is featured on a popular website, due to the sheer number of entries it will attract. But if that same contest requires contestants to create and send in a video on the five reasons why they want to win a holiday to New Zealand, less people will enter due to the work involved and maybe even the lack of confidence in recording a video. There is nothing wrong with entering the simpler contests, but just know your chances of winning will be slim unless the competition is open to only a small group of people (like at a small trade show). But if you are willing to spend the time to do the work required for the more challenging ones, and you feel the prize is worth the effort, you could have a real shot at winning an amazing prize. Where to Find Travel Competitions Sometimes travel competitions appear out of nowhere, it seems - in our email inbox or even our good old-fashioned mail box with an invitation to win a holiday to somewhere nice. These are both excellent ways to start entering travel contests, but there is more you can do. Social media platforms are an easy place to start. Take Twitter and Instagram, for instance. A search of various hashtags, such as #travel, #travelcontests, #contests and #travelcompetitions will bring up a number of opportunities. You may also come across social media accounts dedicated to travel competitions, so go ahead and follow these in order to receive updates from them on future giveaways. A simple Google search for “travel contests” will also show up some entries you may be interested in completing. To be alerted to future competitions through Google, create a “Google Alert” for each time the term “travel competition” or “travel contest” is used online to have the news on how to win a holiday delivered to your inbox immediately. Trade shows and events are another great place to find companies or destinations offering free holidays with the simple completion of a ballot or drop of a business card. Better yet, narrow your search to travel shows for a greater number of travel contests available to enter. Travel doesn’t have to be expensive or impossible.
