Deciding on a summer holiday destination for the family can be incredibly difficult. For parents who are seeking sun, stunning landscapes and plenty of fun things to see and do for their little ones, I like to recommend Lanzarote. One of the Canary Islands, it is dominated by spectacular volcanoes and features gorgeous beaches and beautiful caves. It is an island with many wonderful areas to explore and boasts a wonderful sunny climate, which gives it an exotic feel. |
These are my six recommendations for things to do in Lanzarote when travelling with kids.
1. Rancho Texas
Rancho Texas is a thrilling amusement park in Puerto Del Carmen which boasts dozens of exciting child-friendly rides and activities, all of which are Wild West themed. It also happens to be the largest zoo on the island, with a wide array of beautiful animals. There are regular animal shows throughout the day, including birds of prey shows and crocodile shows. The on-site restaurant ensures that you can spend the entire day enjoying everything Rancho Texas has to offer.
2. Submarine Safaris
Explore the magical world beneath the ocean’s surface with an amazing submarine adventure. In a brilliant Yellow Submarine, you and your little ones can dive to the floor of the Atlantic and gaze out at the breathtaking marine life surrounding Lanzarote. The impressive vessel boasts two large viewing ports at both ends and 22 separate portals throughout the spacious cabin, ensuring that you can get astonishing views of the world beneath the waves.
Setting out to sea in a giant catamaran, this is a fun, exotic and relaxing way to spend a sunny day in Lanzarote. Whilst the offspring can enjoy the thrill of heading out to sea and helping the crew to raise the sails, the adults can sit back and soak up the sun. The kids can then enjoy a free jet-ski ride and learn to snorkel once anchored off the scenic beaches at Papagayo. The catamaran has a twin hull which allows for safe and smooth sailing, so it is suitable for children of all ages.
4. Lanzarote A Caballo
A great day out with a wide range of activities for both young and older children, Lanzarote A Caballo is a wonderful riding centre located just outside Puerto Del Carmen. Horse or camel drawn rides and an excellent Fort Apache Playground is perfect for younger kids, whilst pony or dromedary rides are sure to keep the older children highly entertained.
5. Timanfaya National Park
The main tourist attraction; Timanfaya National Park is great fun for all ages and provides astonishing views of the famous “Fire Mountains”. This is a “Martian” landscape created by large-scale volcanic activity around 300 years ago. I have been told that Camel safaris are an entertaining and memorable way to explore the area.
6. Aqua Park Costa Teguise
An exciting day awaits at Aqua Park Costa Teguise, which is home to dozens of exhilarating water rides with many suitable for all young kids, older children and adults. Not just this, but there are also adventure parks, electric cars, paintball, Jacuzzis and many other activaties to keep you and the tribe amused all day long.
