Every doctor, nurse, and nursing student carries an assortment of must-have items in their scrub pockets on a daily basis. When you enter “scrub stores near me” into that Internet search internet, make sure you look for scrubs with pockets, because you’ll need some of these most common necessities to help you get through those long shifts. - Pens - Have you ever been halfway through your shift and realized you misplaced your pen? It’s amazing how they just disappear throughout the day.
- Stethoscope - This one was a close second because it is simply such an integral part of the medical field, no matter where you practice.
- Bandage Scissors - These scissors were designed with a very specific function-namely, not cutting your patient- but they can be used for just about any application so long as you keep them clean and sharpened.
- Penlight - A penlight is not only a helpful tool but also a reminder for many nurses to perform a neuro check as part of regular patient assessments. It also comes in handy when walking across the parking lot at night after your shift.
- Alcohol prep pads - You’ll be surprised how many of these you can go through in a shift. You’ll need them for IV’s, to clean your pen, your stethoscope, your scissors, the occasional paper cut, and much more.
- Saline Flush - While you can’t stash as many of these in your scrub pocket as you may like, it never hurts to keep a spare.
- Tape - It literally fixes everything. Use it to tape (and retape) an IV, hang a sign, secure a pulse-ox - the uses are endless.
- Chapstick/lotion - Keep your lips and your skin hydrates along with your body by keeping these products on hand. Lotion in a sample sized bottle is especially handy in between hand washing and squirts of sanitizer.
After you find “scrub stores near me” through a search engine, make sure you find scrubs with pockets once you arrive at the store.
