If you have kids in your home, or you are still basically a kid yourself, you probably have had an issue that would require you to repair sheetrock in Marietta. People are accident prone, especially little people, and that is why building materials are repairable. Here are the basics about repairing sheetrock from the causes to the tools to the actual work itself. Causes There are several reasons why you might need to repair your sheetrock. Some common reasons for sheetrock repair are: - Collision damage from someone’s fist or foot
- Corners rubbing raw
- Filling holes from picture hanging
- Water damage
- Floor plan changes
The causes for repairing sheetrock are numerous, but they can all be fixed in about the same way. Of course, if you have water damage, you should always replace the insulation and make sure that everything is dry before you patch up the hole. You could be locking in the perfect ingredients for growing black mold, which can lead to some serious illnesses. Tools The tools for fixing drywall are about as numerous as the causes behind needing your drywall fixed. Some of these tools can be substituted with other similar ones, but others are absolutely necessary, and it could be quite a job to fix drywall on your own. Here are the main tools you will need: - Drywall saw
- Drywall hammer
- Drywall screw gun
- Utility knife
- Screws and nails
- Mixing tools
- Taping knives
- Sanding tools
- Tape
- Corner beads
- Plaster
- Texture applicator
As mentioned before, there are some basic tools that can be substituted for items on this list, but the tools made just for drywall are always the easiest to use. Also, you can save some money by mixing the plaster by hand. Fixing It Depending on the hole size, your process could vary a little bit; however, there is a basic method of repairing sheetrock. First, you should cut a square around the damaged portion. Measure the sheetrock and cut a size to fit inside the hole, then pound the nails in to stabilize it. Tape around the edges. Mix the plaster and apply it to the patch to make it smooth. You want it to blend perfectly into its surroundings so make sure that it is not raised from the area around it. After you have patched it, you will have a slightly off-color and off-texture patch on the wall. Notice the texture on the walls around your patch and try to imitate the texture. There are several methods to applying texture to the wall, so do your homework by watching YouTube tutorials until you find the perfect match to your wall. Professional Help Does this all seem a bit complicated? Well, if you have never done it before, it certainly can be very daunting. If you are a professional, patching drywall is a cinch. If you don't know what you are doing and you don't have all the right tools, you may want to just call a professional to repair sheetrock in Marietta to save you time and definitely save you money in tools.
