Courchevel is an elegant ski resort with beautiful chalet-style accommodation, great designer boutiques and elegant fine dining. It may not be cheap but it oozes romance from every snow-capped rooftop. Whether you decide to go all out and book helicopter rides for two and couples spa treatments at the exclusive five-star hotels or simply cuddle together next to your own roaring log fire and forget the world outside, Courchevel is a resort made for romance. Here are my top five romantic things to do in the resort. 1. Champagne at Sunset on the Slopes Take the lift up to Verdons for a spot of night skiing on a Wednesday evening and enjoy a cold glass of bubbly as the sun sets over the mountain landscape. Then ski down together back to your chalet or hotel under a clear starlit sky. 2. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride Could there be anything more romantic than gliding slowly across the sky above a winter wonderland of snow-covered mountains in a hot air balloon? Take a romantic one or two hour hot air balloon ride over the Alps and post a selfie of the two of you floating above the dramatic landscape (#most romantic selfie ever). 3. Romance and Retail Courchevel has some of the most desirable shops in the Alps with enough designer and luxury brands to rival even the most cosmopolitan city, so after a day on the slopes, spend the evening wandering around these glamorous shops. I recommend the jewellers Doux Joaillier, even if you just go to look. While you’re in the centre of town you could even take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride together through the resort. Just expect your selfies to have shops like Chanel and Cartier in the background rather than snow and trees – after all, this is Courchevel. 4. A Couple’s Spa Session at Chabichou The spa at the Chabichou Hotel is unlike any other spa I’ve ever seen: bigger, grander and more indulgent than most of the other hotel spas in the resort. Spend the afternoon together indulging in its ice baths, hot baths, salt caves, the swimming pool, Turkish baths and banya. 5. A Romantic Meal at La Saulire Enjoy a gastronomic treat at La Saulire where dishes include homemade cold duck foie gras, fresh truffle salad and, for a little romantic boost, half a dozen oysters. The food here is so beautiful you’ll want to post it on to your Instagram before you even think of eating it. How to Get to Courchevel The closest major airport to Courchevel is Geneva, although flights to Chambéry will get you closer.
