We all are aware of the fact that the kitchen is said to be the “heart of the house". But, do we really pay attention to this major part. No, isn't it? It's not just you, more than half of the homeowners neglect their kitchen area. So, in case you are feeling that your kitchen has lost its charm, please renovate it. Generally, what most of the people do to revamp their kitchen is they simply hire interior designers. But, it is not at all necessary to spend so much money on hiring a professional designer. Recently, I have renovated my kitchen and trust me; I didn't have to hire any professional. Instead, I purchase a few home improvement magazines and got some really good ideas to add life to my boring kitchen. However, out of all the ideas, I choose to go with one affordable and effortless idea, and that is changing the color of the cabinets. Believe me or not, changing the color of the cabinets really makes a huge difference to the kitchen. To repaint the cabinets, you can definitely hire professional painters or contact the kitchen cabinet wholesaler from whom you bought the cabinets, and ask them to send their trained men. But, I would suggest do it yourself. Painting the cabinets isn't a tough task at all; plus, you will be able to save a lot of dollars. Now, you must be wondering how would you do it yourself, when you have no experience in painting cabinets, right? Don't worry; here are a few tips that would surely help you. Take a look. - Tip 1- Choose the right paint: When you are planning to repaint your kitchen cabinets, the first and foremost thing that you will have to do is, pick the right type of paint for your cabinets. When it comes to painting the kitchen cabinets, you will have to choose between alkyd and acrylic enamel paint. Don't know the difference? Worry not; the shopkeeper will tell you all the differences. But for the time being, I'll tell you about the major difference. Acrylic paints are water-based paints that emit low-fume and can be easily cleaned using water. And on the other hand, Alkyd or oil-based paints contains solvents that can make you feel sick by irritating your lungs and it requires mineral spirits for cleaning. So, choose accordingly after considering all the factors. Just make sure that the quality of the paint is really worth every penny.
- Tip 2- Choose the apt color: After choosing the right paint, the next thing that you have to do is choose the right color. Usually, people buy paint without thinking twice about the other elements of the kitchen. But, that's a big mistake they make. Instead, you must always go through every single element of the kitchen and then pick a color for the cabinets. For instance, if most elements of your kitchen have gentle colors, then best opt for bright cabinet paints like bright yellow, lime green, deep aqua and etc. And in case your kitchen already has colorful elements, then paint it white. White kitchen cabinet will make the room look spacious and full of life.
- Tip 3- Choose a suitable finish: Last but not the least, when buying cabinet paints, please choose a suitable finish. Since matte finish paints are currently trending, most of the homeowners are going for it. But, I would say buying matte finished paints will be impractical as they are not easy to wipe and flimsy. Instead, you can opt for the ones having the egg-shell finish as they seem like matte, yet are easy to clean and durable. You can also opt for glossy, semi-glossy and satin finish paints. Just make sure it suits the kitchen.
Now, when you know the major tips before painting kitchen cabinets, wait no more. Repaint your existing, worn out cabinets and make the overall kitchen look ravishing.
