When you start working or going out socially on a regular basis, it is very important to feel and look presentable. Tailoring and alterations are almost always done best with someone who has previous experience with your body type and would be in a position to suggest something new that goes with the flow as well as stands out in a crowd of people. These tailors are skilled people and make it a point to stay updated on the latest trends, or else they would have to shut shop. Here are a few things you should know about tailoring and alterations;
• There’s no perfect body: any clothes that you purchase from departmental stores are of generic size and will not perfectly fit you, no matter how much you convince the mirror. Some minor adjustments do have to be made.
• Weight change: this comes from personal experience, you’re bound to gain and shed a few pounds here and there over short periods of time and our lifestyles have a lot to do with it. Instead of giving away the clothes which do not fit, it’s far more economical to have them altered to fit you again.
• Style in vogue: If you follow fashion trends closely, you’ll see that there’s very subtle changes that are implemented, like the length of the hem-line, or shoulder pads, to gradually introduce a new style to people. The logic is simple and psychological, springing something totally new and outlandish won’t find many takers, and instead a gradual transformation is preferred. You too can do the same with your existing dress, and minor adjustments can go a long way in upping your style quotient.
• Decency: Just because it’s in trend, doesn’t mean you have to settle for cheap looks that draw salacious comments. You can have your tailor make alterations to keep the dress from sliding, slipping, or gaping at the wrong places.
• Favorites: some things refuse to go out of style and it’s advisable to hang onto them. Use these tips and find the tailor that makes alterations to give you a perfect fitting dress!
