The quality of education that a pupil receives is dependent upon the kind of teacher. A teacher should be chosen carefully as he/she has a strong influence on the child in his formative years. Teaching is a process of passing knowledge to another person. A person of any age can be a teacher if he or she is knowledgeable in a particular area. For a person to be considered as a good teacher he or she must possess many qualities which are related to the teaching values and professional characteristics. The teachers should have a sound knowledge in the particular area that he or she is trying to teach, but the essential skill that a teacher requires is the ability to make others understand and have good communication skills. A good teacher should possess a very good personality. The students are attracted to those teachers with good personality and character which leads to better communication between the teacher and pupil. Another important quality that the teachers should possess is that he or she must be able to manage the classroom. If the teacher is able to manage the classroom properly then there will be a culture of respect that flows between the people present in the room whether it is a teacher to students or students to students or students to teachers. There will also be a clear and shared understanding of acceptance and behavior of the students. A teacher should always be passionate about teaching. If they are excited about influencing the pupils life’s and understand the impact that they can make then they are considered to be good teachers. The teacher must also be a good planner as the teacher is responsible for the arrangement of schedules. Maintaining these schedules allows teachers to give students extra time to conceptualize ideas. Teaching methods are constantly changing. Slowly the traditional teaching methods are being replaced by e-learning methods. Good teachers will remain open to the changes around them. A good teacher in today’s date will be required to have some computer skills so that they can teach with the help of presentations slides and other word processing documents to make teaching easier.
