Medical marijuana is a term reffering to the use of the raw plant or of its main extracts for medical purposes - treating various disease or ilness. Hence, scientists have been trying to produce an oil-type cannabinoid which can be used as medicine. However, the 'high' people get from abusing marijuana will not be in these drugs. How marijuana can be used as medicine The two substances that have been researched in marijuana which can be used as medicine are cannabinoids and THC. THC and THC-based medications can be used to boost one's appetite, reduce nausea, relieve pain and inflammation, and reduce body spasms. Cannabinoids does not effect the mind, memory or behavior of a person. It can be used in relieving pain and inflammation, managing epileptic seizures, and could also be used in treating drug addictions and possibly mental illness. Due to recent studies and research on cancer treatments with lab animals, it was demonstrated that marijuana extracts could kill cancer cells of some and reduce the size of others. Other research also shows that marijuana has purified extracts which can significantly decrease the development of cancer cells from even the most chronic brain tumors. Another study also showed that mixture of cannabinoids, radiation and tetrahydrocannabinol can boost the process of radiation therapy in cancer treatment. However, this does not prove that when injected into a living human, it can kill selectively only cancer cells. And hence, further research needs to be carried out on marijuana and its constituents.
