Spain is not only the original European golfing destination but it retains its highly regarded reputation as one of the best. Most Spanish courses are 18 holes, but if you fancy tackling something a little more challenging on your golf breaks, Spain also has some excellent places where you can play two courses in one. Top Five Courses With 36 Holes Empordà Golf Resort If you have time to look up from your game and appreciate the scenery, this course is bound to please. Only 30 minutes from Girona Airport and even closer to the Costa Brava beach scene, the Empordà Golf Resort is split into two 18-hole sections: Links and Forest. Beautifully designed to combine a lake area with dunes, pinewoods and bunkers, the course is one not to be missed. Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo With regal acclaim, this magnificent sitewas founded over 100 years ago. Not only can you spend your day working your way around the two 18-holers, but you can also get some practice in on the driving range or head out for a quick round on the short hole option. If you travel with non-golfing companions on your golf breaks, Spain’s Real Sociedad Hípica Española Club de Campo has plenty of activities to keep them occupied; tennis and horse riding are just two of them. Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community A paradise within a paradise, the 170 hectares dedicated to golf at this resort are split into three courses and two clubhouses. The scenery is as diverse as you can get, with the three courses taking in wetlands, pine groves, quarries and even an archeological site dating back to the second century. La Cala Resort Simply stunning in its outlook, this resort boasts three favourites when it comes to 18-holers and is an excellent option if you want to play 36. Between Campo America, Campo Europa, and Campo Asia, the differences are minimal, but you are definitely advised to hire a buggy here. Non-players will revel in the opportunity to enjoy the swimming pool and the luxury spa. PGA Catalunya Resort The 36 holes at this resort are split into the Stadium Course and the Tour Course, both of which are considered top class. The former is more challenging, and therefore probably the most popular, but both make for a great day out and are often considered highlights of golf breaks. Spain’s courses are of the highest quality and while most are the standard 18 holes, you have hopefully been inspired to try out some 36-hole options on your next trip away with the clubs.
