It began in 1987 and every year more and more people come to witness this incredible event. All kinds of kites are flown in the reliably windy conditions, and you’ll see different shapes and sizes, with everything from famous characters and animals to artistic and imaginative offerings. There’s no doubt that when you’ve been here once, you will want to return. There’s even a club called “The Fuerteventura Kite Family”, which was set up for the people that have been coming since the very first event. The great news is that the beach becomes a huge flying stage for three whole days so you can be flexible when you visit, although the atmosphere is contagious and you might end up going every day! The first day is a Friday and is pretty much a free for all, which can be lots of fun if you and the kids fancy joining in. The second day is set aside for the pros, who demonstrate their kite building and flying skills as well. If your children are not too young, you can take them to the nighttime display on the second evening too. Sunday is definitely the climax of the event and is so much fun for the youngsters. Teddy Bears drop sweets from the sky and lots of free kites are given away to the children.
