If you are an employer, or someone in control of premises, including landlords, you must understand the health risks associated with legionella. This also includes how much you need to be on top of your legionella management efforts as well as your efforts in blocking out legionnaires' disease also. In short, it can be very dangerous for all concerned and it looks to also be a growth area as a market need too. Legionella is commonly found in fresh water sources, but it can in fact be present in and around pretty much any other water source too. You need to have your water system risk assessed for Legionella to be sure you do not have this risk factor present in your property as it can in some ways be very much an invisible killer as well as risk. You very much overall need to identify and assess any source of Legionella risk and then to control and manage it for the best outcome. It is necessary to be competent to carry out a legionella risk assessment, if you have any involvement of the control of legionella. If you are a business owner or operator, or you manage a water system, you really will need to note already just how responsible you are and the degree of responsibility you have for this. After all, legionella management is big business and a big need to be on top of. Clearly Legionnaires' disease isn't going away. Consequently, employers or people in control of premises are responsible, under the Management of Health and Safety act to need to be right on top of it. There are now firms in the market all of who undertake full legionella management services to rid the high risk factors that can otherwise be seen from this. This is the case right across all areas of the UK, no matter what city or area to which you may be based. If you have already reviewed your risk assessment and implemented additional control measures, then it is unlikely you will need to take any further steps should your risk assessment report back too many issues. When it comes back to it all, legionella management is big business and an area that has to be taken very seriously if people in a building are not to come into contact with it at any time at all.
