Wicked tickets are now available and can be bought or sold online at StubHub.com. Naturally, with a title like Wicked, the subject of evil is a prominent theme throughout the hit Broadway play. The fact that it attempts to tackle such a complex subject and yet manages to remain a feel-good, mainstream play, is in itself an achievement. Many Broadway hits are full of sound and noise, a few simple catchy songs, and then simply end without challenging or engaging the viewer. But getting Wicked tickets guarantees you’ll experience something different, and that’s a large reason for why it’s been so successful. It walks the line between being a serious play with something to say about the nature of good and bad—or, rather, the human tendency to develop facile labels like ‘good’ or ‘bad’ for complex issues—and typical Broadway entertainment. Elphaba, the emerald-skinned young woman at the center of the play, is naturally the character that provokes the most musing on this theme. Born bright green, she’s the subject of pointing fingers and jeering throughout her childhood. She’s wickedly smart—no pun intended—and shows signs of being talented with magic, but shy and bitter from being made fun of by her peers. A "her" and "them" dynamic starts to build from early on. She’s the Other, someone strange and unfamiliar, and that difference eventually transcends social unpopularity. In time, she’s regarded with fear because she’s different and powerful. Even though she ends up trying to save the day and right the wrongs of the inept Wizard of Oz, she’s called a wicked witch because she’s a rabble-rouser. Everyone hates the messenger. The feeling is often mutual, but a large part of that stems from misunderstanding. When Elphaba falls in love with the popular boy at school, and he loves her back, Glinda the Good sees Elphaba as stealing her boyfriend. But the relationship between Glinda and her boyfriend was never meaningful—it was always shallow. Glinda sees Elphaba as a traitor, but the two were always attracted to each other. It’s a lack of communication and honesty that kept them apart. There’s a lot to think about in this play, and Wicked tickets allow you to experience all of that.
