This idea involves becoming somewhat more visionary in prayers at certain times and in certain areas. It is often said to be specific in prayer, but sometimes the question is how to be specific and that sometimes might be a hindrance to a more imaginative approach to prayer and that sometimes being to tied up with the idea of being specific with your prayers as opposed to be general can be confusing. The Lord may give you a picture of what is possible and then you can advance your prayer towards this picture. Also, you are either advancing your prayer into an answer or a vision of the Lord for you or your not. If you are not doing this, the Lord will again lead you back towards what is the vision for you and then you can correctly advance your prayers towards this vision contained in the leading. If you are praying to advance your own personal situation into the Lord's vision for you, then what is wrong with that? What actually does quality as specific prayer as opposed to just a general prayer and do or can I only move forward towards a wanted answer if I only find a precise specific prayer? There are more general prayers that aren’t as specific that can help bring up the level of optimism in prayers towards what seems to be a situation of lack that takes on a degree of direness. This is true because the blessings are specific but also general as well. For example, take someone who lost a job, and if praying for another job,they could ask for a specific job, and they could also give thanks in that there are good places or good fits out there, there are job situations that they could and would feel comfortable in, and this is advancing the prayer towards known generalities, even though the where and how of these jobs in not yet specifically in place, Someone seeking a relationship, could say, within their prayers, that they are thankful that there are people out there could and would have good chemistry with, would match up fairly well with potentially and would have a mutual like towards. Even though the specifics of who those individuals might be isn't front and present, this is a more optimistic prayer in that it can be generally known that this is probable. Another reason for this approach is that the scholars on prayer how shown that the Lord does work in ways that give some advancement towards what the answer could be. It might be an image that is given, for example an image of health, or wealth or a situation that is possible through the grace of the Lord and his intentions which are specific but the image is something that the individual will advance towards. Then in the back and forth of the prayer dialogue, the Lord will maybe communicate as to what he might do and then the prayer needs to be adjusted towards this revealed intention of the Lord. The person praying needs to be open towards this process, as the Lord will deal from his own choosing and the prayer can be adjusted to what is being revealed. The Lord might even do something such as turning back the tables of time to a degree, and then you would adjust the prayer towards that leading. But generalities can be put forth in prayer and then see if leadings can be found in the generalities that are proposed. There leadings may or may not contain specifics. Getting back to the example of someone looking for a new job, it might be that you could ask for a job where you would be of the most help for others using the skills you have, or ask for the job you would gain the most wealth from, or ask for a job that is the most fun, and then see if there is a leading from these generalities from the Lord as a response to these different types of inquiries. But there are also optimistic probabilities that can be brought forth in prayer and thanksgiving, in that there are even these abilities to do these things, and part of the advancement in prayer is to see what at the ground floor of asking is already true and already part of the package that is ultimately a gift. Components are already in place for the advancement and they need to be acknowledged in the process of prayer in the manner of thanksgiving. So the various tools already there towards a possible wanted answer or advancement in prayer can be acknowledged and addressed as a reality here and now. So someone could pray that they are grateful that they can comfortably read in any number of areas, and the different things that could potentially manifest from that one gift, without having to spell out all specifics but possibly going into broad specifics and thanking that they can read comfortably in this subject area, that subject area and so on. So in this way, potentialities and talents, not yet fully exercised or exercised at all, can be discussed in prayer and then see what leadings do come from this yet faraway vision that can come close with the Lord’s answers and leadings or can proceed back from visions already given by the Lord to you.
