Goal setting preparation is not a difficult task, but if it is done improperly you can end up not getting the goals you want. The worst part is you will not even realize it. When we perepare to set goals sometimes we have great goals in mind and we never write them down because we worry what others will think or whether we will be able to achieve them or not. This is a bad way to think because it limits you and that is not what goal setting is about. You should always start with a brainstorming session where you write down each and every thing that comes to your mind. Write down dreams, goals, things you want to accomplish, places you want to travel to, things you want to experience, and anything that comes into your head goes on paper. Sometimes flipping through magazines can help and so can pictures. If one of your goals is to buy a new house, then find a picture of one you like and post it on your wall where you will see it always. Visualization is very helpful with goals and if you can teach yourself to see the goals over and over, then you will most likely achieve them. Next you need to organize your brainstorming. Do not eliminate anything from the list. Go through it and figure out which goals you can achieve in the next 30 days, 90 days, year, 5 years, and 10 years. These are your categories to work with and you will break the 30 days down into weeks and single days. Last, you need to break down each of your goals. This is very important in goal setting preparation because you need to work on smaller goals that will lead you to your larger goal over time. For example, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds, then maybe your goal for the first month should be 5 pounds and your weekly goal should be 1 pound. You get the idea.
