You can choose to use a swimming pool heater to extend your swimming season past the summer months. This is a fantastic idea if you want to be able to take a dip on the cooler days and use your swimming pool later than Labor day. Most companies will suggest that you set your water to a temperature of 78 degrees, but most of use prefer it just a bit warmer and around 80 to 84 degrees. You can get the most popular with is a gas fired heater that runs off of LP gas, but with the price of gas you might want to consider an electric or solar powered heater, which also work great. The only issue with an electric heater is that they are quite expensive as well, and they will take some extra cash each year to maintain them. These are great heaters, but still a little on the expensive side. Some will say that a solar heater is expensive and requires a large pump, but I can tell you from personal experience that this is just not true. My father and I built a solar heater after we saw the one my uncle purchase and it worked great! The one my uncle had was a great heater and did the job, but we were able to build one that was a little bit better and for about half the price. My uncle did not pay all that much for his, maybe $300, but we build one for under $175 out of thick black tubing, pvc pipe, and a pump. The pump had to be replaced about once every other year, but they only run about $45 each so it is a small price to pay compared to the electric you will use for an electric pool heater or that gas that it takes to use gas powered swimming pool heaters.
