Rachell and Todd were getting ready for his office Christmas party when the fight broke out. She worked later then she'd planned and was running about 15 minutes late. Todd was stressed about the party generally. He didn't want to go. His new boss had made attendance mandatory and Todd was already butting heads with the new boss. Needless to say, he wanted to be on time. Rachell on the other hand, wanted to look presentable, and figured that no one would notice if they were ten to fifteen minutes late to a party. So, the battle lines were drawn and the outlook for the evening was frosty at best, that is until Rachell remembered the formula for how to get what you want in any fight with a man... Here is the bottom line; a man thinks he has won the fight when you acknowledge he is right. Most men, and many women for that matter, would rather be right then happy. That is the reason it is virtually impossible to rationalize or reason with a man during a fight. He can't compromise. They are programmed to go for surrender. However, the important thing to remember is this. Surrender to a man has nothing to do with getting his way. It only has to do with being the one who is right. Period. Knowing this, a woman can not only get her way in an argument, but she can also go a long way towards future good graces with her man, simply by saying five simple words, "you are absolutely right, but..." The key to your personal victory is in the last word, "but..." As Todd was fuming behind her, snapping at her about making a bad impression on his new boss, and how ridiculous it was that she always took so much time to get ready, Rachell took a deep breath and threw up the white flag of surrender. "You know Honey, you are absolutely right. I do take too much time. The amount of time I take with my hair and makeup is ridiculous." She turned away from the mirror, long enough to watch his gnarled face soften instantly. "But, she followed up, I really want to make a good impression on your boss too. Please just give me a few minutes to get myself together. I'll be ready before you know it." "I'll warm up the car." Todd said as he walked victoriously out of the bedroom. It took her exactly twelve more minutes to get ready. Todd didn't blink an eye at that. When the new boss complimented Rachell for looking so beautiful, Todd gave her hand a little squeeze. This strategy works almost every time. The key to success is in its elegant simplicity. If you are willing to lay it out there and let it be, you will almost always end the fight graciously and everyone, especially the man, thinks they have "won". Remember, it goes like this, "Yes, you are absolutely right, but I want my way anyway..." And like a magic wand, you are quite likely to get it.
