Club drugs, as the name suggests, are popular at clubs and lounges which are mostly frequented by teenagers and young adults. Club drugs are basically psychoactive compounds that are chemically heterogeneous. Some of the popular club drugs found at bars, raves and parties include Ketamine and MDMA or Ecstasy. Some of these drugs are depressants that copy natural chemicals that may be found in the body, but the drugs offer them in large doses. Club drugs may be snorted, ingested orally or injected into the body. A large number of young adults tend to opt for club drugs to elevate the trance or the high. Club Drugs Dangerous Club drugs are often dangerous as most of them tend to depress the central nervous system and the user may have no memories of the time when the drugs took effect. This is especially dangerous as some club drugs are tasteless and have no odor and can be mixed in a person’s drink without them realizing that they have ingested club drugs. Club drugs like GHB and Rohyponol are also used as ‘date rape’ drugs. These drugs when mixed with alcohol can incapacitate a person and leave them helpless; they would also usually have no memories of the attack or the attacker. Most club drugs are essentially anesthetic and taken in large doses cause hallucinations and feelings of euphoria. The user’s perception of the world is distorted as are the reactions to it. Driving or using heavy machinery after intake of club drugs may be fatal. Club drugs have been known to be associated with side effects such as seizures and breathing problems and in extreme cases they may lead to coma or death. Overdose is also seen commonly and can be fatal. Repeated use of club drugs can lead to dependence and the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms when the club drugs aren’t used. These drugs are considered especially dangerous as teenagers have easy access to them at clubs and bars.
