Conjugating Spanish verbs is one of the most difficult aspects of learning Spanish. But you can still easily master spanish verb conjugations without breaking too much of a sweat with the aid of Spanish verb software. In fact, using a Spanish verb program can dramatically reduce your study time. Spanish verb software works because it allows you to focus on particular types of verbs that give you the most problems. For most students these are irregular and reflexive verbs. The software also simplifies the learning process by letting you perform quick, fun verb drills to effortlessly drive home the information. As you've probably already learned there are three main types of verbs in Spanish: -ar verbs, -er verbs and -ir verbs. Some of these verbs are irregular verbs, that is, they don't follow the conjugation patterns of the main groups. Add to this the fact that there are up to 20 different verb tenses and you can see how complicated the conjugations can become. To learn verbs many students rely on the conjugation charts provided in their grammar or text books. However, simple memorization of conjugation patterns is not the most effective way to learn conjugations. Verb drills are much more effective, and that is where Spanish verb software comes into the picture. Computer-based verb drills force you to think of the correct conjugation in a unique, random situation rather than rely on patterns you've previously memorized. And software can make the whole process easy and enjoyable -- almost like playing a word game. Several good software programs are available. The best, most effective program is the Verbarrator. It costs about $57 and is available by download for both PC and Mac. Two less expensive programs are Conjumania and Amigos Spanish. Conjumania is freeware. Amigos Spanish offers a free trial version but then charges a fee if you wish to continue using it. Note that verb conjugators are not complete Spanish courses -- they only focus on verbs. These programs are simply meant to augment your other studies of grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, etc. If you are looking for a complete downloadable Spanish course, see this side-by-side comparison of the best Spanish courses.
