TaylorMade has generated plenty of buzz with white metalwoods in the past few years. Now the company hopes to do the same with new taylormade rocketbladez irons.
The RocketBladez set is comprised of 11 individually designed and tailored club heads to give unprecedented distance, control and feel. The Speed Pocket, incorporated into the three – seven irons, is a 2mm-wide slot in the sole of the iron that flexes and rebounds at impact, promoting faster ball speed, a higher launch angle and a quick-stopping descent angle.
Irons always took a backseat to metalwoods at TaylorMade. Sure, there were plenty of iron models. There were forged irons for touring professionals and low-handicap amateurs. For everybody else there were explosive, strong-lofted irons made of cast stainless steel, embodied by the cheap taylormade burner 2.0 irons.
The irons also deliver consistent distance as they lack ‘hot spots’, ensuring distance consistency and predictability on every shot. The RocketBladez irons were originally intended for amateurs, but a Tour version was created after TaylorMade Staff Professionals tried them. The ‘Speed Pocket’ promotes faster ball speed and a higher launch angle, producing a longer, higher-flying and quicker-stopping shot.
These irons, even the Tour model, are made of cast stainless steel and not forged steel. TaylorMade calls this “one-piece cast construction.” Executive vice president Sean Toulon said in this case virtually nobody can tell the difference between cast and forged. “We’ve tested these wholesale golf clubs for everything imaginable,” Toulon said. “They are unbelievably long, the distances are incredibly consistent and most players think they feel exactly like forged irons.”
Overall, TaylorMade officials and players have great expectations for the RocketBladez. These irons will make golfers a better player.
