John Smith lives in a small market town within the Greater London area, England, some 17 miles to the West of the city centre. Originally brought up in the North of England his immediate family, and for generations past, fished the cod off the Icelandic sea banks. John’s tribal Influences are mixed, Irish from his mother’s side and Scottish from his father’s forebears. Formerly serving a number of years in the Royal Air Force including lengthy overseas tours, he ended his military service in the 1990’s to take up a career in marketing at a London University, where he has been employed for the last 17 years. Leaving high school at 18 years to join the Services, it took him over a decade to seek out the high citadels of academia, eventually taking up studies with the Open University and graduating in 1992 majoring in Psychology. Letters to Bangkok is a book about written destiny, destiny between two people searching for their chosen soul mates, but also fulfils a lifelong dream of the author to become a writer. This dream was implanted some 40 years earlier by an advanced in years, much loved English teacher who had suffered the ravages of ill-health as a victim of a mustard gas attack in the war, and who prophetically said on reading an essay, one day John you will write. Now many years on, the author takes time to salute his former schoolmaster, and with Letters to Bangkok his prophecy is at last fulfilled.
