(Planting myself in the midst of giant redwood trees, healthy skies, and open spaces, I knew that Humboldt was just what the doctor ordered for one dreadfully homesick for my native Colorado.) At the age of 21, with a double degree in Journalism and Political Science in hand, and a passion for writing in my heart, I hurried back to Denver and obtained employment as a writer/editor for Golden Bell Press. A few years later, I became a technical writer for the United States Government (Bureau of Reclamation). When my contract with the government expired in 1991, the lure of the snow-capped mountains to the west of Denver was unbearable, and I moved up to Dillon, Colorado (elev. 9,800 feet!). Eventually, and with great joy, I found a job with the United States Forest Service. At first my duties involved hiking trails and enlightening visitors as to the multitude of recreational and inspirational opportunities that belong to all Americans -- as the true owners of all public lands in this nation. While obtaining my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Regis University in Denver, I also worked my way into a writing assignment -- the first of many -- for the Forest Service. In 2004, I moved down to Boulder and began offering my services as a freelance writer/editor. Enjoying my new home, where the mountains meet the plains, I worked as an editor for the National Park Service (for their annual magazine, Park Science). I was also fortunate enough to be given the task of writing and editing the Resource Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement for the newly designated Canyons of the Ancients National Monument in southern Colorado -- the foundational plan that will define the land and resource management of that amazing national treasure for the next 20 years. Along with working on numerous other writing/editing projects for public and private entities, as well as for individual fiction and non-fiction writers, I also completed two fictions novels of my own (available on Smashwords.com and Amazon.com).
