Tired of the same old trip you take every summer to the beach? Sure, the sand is inviting and the water breathtaking, but why not do something different this summer? TIME magazine recently released their top 50 American roadside attractions. Here, you will see some of those sites highlighted. Consider these stops along your journey and plan the vacation of a lifetime as you travel across the United States in an RV. The Beer-Can House Sound made up? It is not. A man by the name of John Milkovich, a retired upholsterer for a railroad company, decided he didn't want to mow his lawn anymore. So, he used rock, wood, and marble to landscape his home. Then he began attaching flattened aluminum beer cans to his house. Over a period of 18 years, he attached approximately 50,000 beer cans. When asked why he did this, he said he wasn't exactly sure but figured it was easier than painting the house. You can be one of the many people who have driven to Milkovich's beer-can house. Milk Bottles in Spokane There once was a booming dairy company in Spokane, Washington. All that's left of that company, however, are two famous bottles of milk, which are actually milk-bottle buildings. You can see one of these bottle-buildings just off of the freeway in Spokane. The other now houses a cafe that is famous for award-winning milkshakes. Many people highly recommend trying the huckleberry and lemon-custard shakes. Space Travel You probably didn't know that you could also space travel during your cross-country RV trip. Well, you can. All you have to do is veer off at Oracle, Arizona to see a spaceship-like glass facility, known as Biosphere 2, that is situated nearly 4,000 above sea level. The building, which sits at the foot of the Santa Catalina Mountains, houses the spacecraft that landed on Mars in 2008 and is considered by some to be one of the 50 wonders of the world. A Giant Whale You probably won't expect to find a giant blue whale in landlocked Oklahoma, but there is one. All you have to do is drive down Route 66 through some side-by-side bridges and you are sure to see the famous blue beached whale. The mega fish was built in the 1970s as an anniversary gift from a man to his wife, and it's now known as Oklahoma's grinning Blue Whale. The 80-foot spectacle sits in a pond that is a favorite among passing travelers and nearby residents. Pack a picnic and stop at the outdoor area to enjoy a little rest time along your journey. Cadillac Ranch If you want another slightly bizarre site to see, then don't miss Cadillac Ranch, near Amarillo, Texas. These 10 graffiti-covered tail fins were placed there as a tribute to the American dream. When you stop at Cadillac Ranch, you will see 10 classic cars, half buried at the same angle as the Great Pyramid in Egypt. The site, which was developed by millionaire Stanley Marsh III, was originally intended to only be a temporary exhibit, but it's remained a popular attraction since 1974. You can find the site near I-40 in a cow pasture, although keep in mind that the attraction has been moved about two miles west of its original location because of growth in the city. Don't forget your spray paint so you can leave your mark on the famous site.
