LONDON – May 22, 2012: Four local authorities in Scotland arenow using the 100% electric Nissan LEAF to reduce their carbonemissions and improve air quality. Transport Scotland has offered a grant for the public sector acrossthe country to meet the initial cost of purchasing electricvehicles, leading to the four Scottish authorities investing in atotal of 12 Nissan LEAFs. The authorities are NHS Tayside, DundeeCity Council, Perth & Kinross Council and Dumfries and GallowayCouncil. NHS Tayside will be running two Nissan LEAFs for its healthprofessionals. Sustainability Champion and Chairman of NHS TaysideSandy Watson said, "Last year NHS Tayside spent over half amillion pounds on fuel for its fleet of vehicles and money we saveon fuel will could go towards other healthcare priorities. "The timely delivery of these two new electric vehicles willhelp towards reducing NHS Tayside's emissions as they createless pollution than petrol or diesel powered cars, and are anenvironmentally-friendly alternative, as well as beingcost-effective." Over in Dundee, employees at the City Council are now using fourNissan LEAFs which make up part of its car pool scheme. FraserCrichton, Dundee City Council's Plant and Vehicle Officersaid: "We are constantly looking at different methods to reduce ourcarbon footprint and electric vehicles are a key focus for us. TheNissan LEAF was the only car available that fitted our needs of anupmarket vehicle with boot space and the range to be able to get toGlasgow. I have driven the LEAF myself and have found it to befantastic. It is excellent to drive and my fellow colleagues and Ihave been very impressed by it." Twenty miles away in Perth & Kinross, the council has also addedfour Nissan LEAFs to its pool car fleet. Bill Morton, Perth &Kinross Council's Fleet Manager said: "The decision toinvest in the Nissan LEAF has been crucial towards helping us meetour aims to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality." Further south in Dumfries and Galloway, an additional two NissanLEAFs have been added to the council's pool car fleet. Thecouncil was the first in the UK to have a LEAF to its fleet lastyear and already has two charging points installed on itsproperties and is in the process of installing a further four. Inaddition to these, the council has committed to install a further10 public charging points across the city including one RapidCharger, which can charge the LEAF's battery up to 80%capacity in less than 30 minutes.
