Taking on a summer job as a home care provider for an elderly man who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease is no easy feat. It is a rewarding yet sometimes challenging job, and it would make anyone realize that it takes a very special kind of person to go into a career providing Maryland home care. Every morning Michael’s home care provider would start off the day by taking the classified section out of the newspaper. He had an obsession with buying a car and if the classifieds were left in the paper he’d want to call people about their car ads. Michael would read the newspaper several times a day and every time it would be brand new to him. He was always wondering what happened to that classified ad. One of his other favorite activities was showing off his rock collection. Every day he would go through all the rocks in his pouch, telling the details of why each one was important to him. Michael loved telling his stories about when Mount St. Helens erupted. This was another one of his daily rituals. It can be sad to see a relative or friend who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease relive the same activities every day, even sometimes more than once a day without even realizing it, but loving and compassionate caregivers patiently go through these routines day in and day out. It’s such a wonderful blessing for people like Michael to be able to receive Maryland home care so that they can stay in their own homes and enjoy their regular every day lives as much as is possible.
