Adrenaline-fuelled action movies have always remained a popular genre of movies for people across the world. These movies often have the audience on the edge of their seats with the exposure of raw emotions as well as power-packed performances. Furthermore, powerful soundtracks also contribute to the success of these movies and very often they have a number of other genres such as comedy, romance which are also a part of the film. A number of popular Hollywood actors have left their mark on the big screen for their roles in different action flicks. An actor who has been nominated for two Academy Awards for his role in the movie, Rocky for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor Sylvester Stallone is the third man in history to receive two nominations for the same film after Orson Welles and Charles Chaplin. Stallone is currently one of the most popular actors of this genre in today's times. Also a screenwriter and film director, this talented actor has also been voted in the boxing’s Hall of Fame in 2010. Born in New York City as Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone, Sylvester is Italian (through his father), Russian Jewish and French (through his mother). His acting career began at a young age starring in the soft core pornography feature film, The Party at Kitty and Stud’s (1970). Released several years later as Italian Stallion so as to cash in on Stallone's newfound name (the title was taken from Stallone’s nickname ever since Rocky). Stallone was then seen in an erotic off-Broadway stage play, Score which had 23 performances and was later made into a film. His early films included No Place To Hide (retitled Rebel), What’s Up, Tiger Lily?; A Man Called...Rainbo. The movie, A Man Called...Rainbo won the Silver Awards at the Chicago International Film Festival and Worldfest – Houston. It was also featured on Entertainment Tonight and received a Thumbs-UP on Siskel & Ebert. Although his first few films were minors which included brief uncredited appearances in Woody Allen’s Banaras, in the psychological thriller, Klute; in the film The Prisoner of Second Avenue, The Lords of Flatbush, Farewell, My Lovely; Capone, Death Race 2000 where he has played a number of leading as well as supporting roles. He also is known to have made guest appearances in different TV shows Kojac and Police Story. However, it was his role in Rock (1976) when he gained worldwide fame where he not only wrote the script but also played the lead role in the film. A film which was nominated for ten Academy Awards, the film won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Film Editing. It was after this movie that Stallone made his directorial debut and also starred in Paradise Alley which is a family drama. He was seen starring in a social drama, F.I.S.T., as well as the sequel to Rocky in Rock II. His most noteworthy performances have been as soldier John Rambo in the movie Rambo and as the boxer Rocky Balboa in the movie Rocky. Besides acting, Sylvester Stallone is known to have written every single episode of two eponymous franchises as well as directed some of their installments. Some of his best films are The Lords of Flatbush (1974), Death Race 2000 (1975), Rocky (1976), F.I.S.T (1978),Paradise Alley (1978), First Blood (1982), Cobra (1986), Tango & Cash (1989), Cop Land (1997) and The Expendables (2010). Recently, Stallone has starred in the action film, Bullet to the Head and will be seen in the action thriller Escape Plan along with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Caviezel. He will also be seen in the sports comedy Grudge Match with Robert De Niro.
