The Lowdown on Skiing in Tignes

Sports,Travel & Tourism
As far as winter holidays go, skiing in Tignes ranks among the finest options. It’s an activity in a place worthy of any bucket list or any group holiday. The reasons that so many people come here every year (many of them repeat visitors), are too numerous to mention in one article, but these are some of the key factors that make skiing in Tignes so appealing to so many.

Variety is the Spice of Life

This region is enormous. For those venturing to the French Alps for skiing, in Tignes you will not be disappointed. The place is home to around three hundred kilometres of pistes and thousands upon thousands of off-piste hectares waiting to be explored. The main pull of a place like this is that you can be assured there will be something to suit every level. Whether a new skier or a seasoned veteran looking for a challenge, there will be something here for you.

Freestylers

Such a large area is perfect for people looking to get off-piste. Not only that, the elevation is over 2000 metres, which means there are no trees to block your path. Off piste skiing in Tignes is unlike anywhere else on earth due to this height. The terrain is varied and exciting (and vast!) so the view is unique and interesting around every corner – from cliff drops to couloirs.

Of course adventure like this isn’t for everybody, but it’s cemented in the culture here. If you’re looking for that little bit of difference, though, it will be perfect for you.

Perfect Powder

For more traditional forms of getting out on the snow, you’ll find wide slopes for cruising no matter which of the five villages you’re staying in. With so many excellent resorts close to a lift, you’ll never be too far from some of the finest skiing in Europe.

As mentioned above, the elevation of the area means that there are no trees, giving you a tremendous view out over wide vistas as you ride the lifts. These views are so amazing due to both the natural scenery and the snow fall, which covers everything in a thick white blanket. The elevation means the snowfall is guaranteed pretty much all the time!

For Those With a Sense of Adventure

The five villages that make up the area have a little something that no other place in the French Alps does, but it really is hard to put your finger on just what it is. Is it the world-class resorts – fit for groups from five to fifty? Or is it the nightlife, which is just the right amount of buzz, spread across a few centres, providing a variety not often seen in ski resorts? Or maybe it’s the quality and overwhelming quantity of options that budding skiers have when they visit.

Whatever it is, skiing in Tignes is something you won’t forget in a hurry. As soon as you arrive and are greeted by incredible views over the wide ranging mountains you’ll fall in love. The quality of the snow and the choice of activity will be what keeps you coming back for years and years.
