With its numerous (and often very cheap) flights, Barcelona Airport is a great place to start if you want to discover some of the great destinations lying close to the Catalonian capital. Reus Sit back and enjoy the scenery while your airport transfer drives you the 60 miles down the coast from Barcelona Airport to the pretty town of Reus. Famous as the birth place of the Barcelonan architect Antoni Gaudí, Reus actually boast none of his work, although fans of modernist architecture can follow a trail of various modernist buildings by other celebrated architects and visit the Gaudí Centre to learn more about his life. Despite the modernist architecture, the town’s charm lies in the way old and new sit comfortably together and many of the buildings in Reus date back as far as the 16th Century. Getting to Reus Because of the length of the journey to Reus, the easiest and most comfortable way to travel is by Barcelona Airport transfer, which will pick you up from the airport and take you directly to your hotel in Reus. The journey time for us to drive is usually just over an hour, whereas the Alsa bus will take closer to two hours which may not be the best start to your holiday. It is possible to take a RENFE train to Reus, but there is no direct service from the airport so you’ll need to take the train to Barcelona Sants station from Terminal 2 and then change. Salou For a holiday combining sun, sea and Mediterranean shopping and café culture, Salou, on the Costa Daurada, is a perfect holiday destination. Whether you prefer the bustle of the town’s beautiful long sandy beaches or hidden coves beside crystal waters, Salou and its surrounding area will have just what you’re looking for. Watersport enthusiasts will find plenty to do and will love the windsurfing and sailing the town is famous for. Those looking for something a little less strenuous should definitely try a round or two on the great local golf courses. As well as boasting plenty of leisure activities, Salou is a cultural centre with sights like Brenys Roman villa, an ancient ceramics workshop dating back to the 1st century BC, and the pretty Salou lighthouse, which are both well worth visiting. Getting to Salou Just below Reus, on the coast, Salou is just over 60 miles from Barcelona Airport and is, similarly, a beautiful journey in which visitors taking a Barcelona airport transfer can sit back, relax and drink in the scenery before being delivered directly to their hotel. Again, there is no direct train from the airport to Salou, so passengers must take the train into Barcelona and change. There is no direct bus service from Barcelona Airport to Salou. Lloret de Mar Another great beach destination and a very popular holiday spot, Lloret de Mar offers visitors vibrant beach and night life combined with stunning natural landscapes and a rich cultural history. The town was originally built by 19th century traders returning home from the Americas. They commissioned vast houses to show off their fortunes, using the very latest modernist styles. One such building is the Can Comadran, a stunning town noble house with some great modernist elements to look out for. The beautiful Santa Clotilde Gardens at the edge of the town offer breath-taking Mediterranean views across the terraced, landscaped traditional Catalonian gardens. A great, cool, shady place to explore when the sun gets too hot. But mostly Lloret is about the beach and you’ll find all kinds of watersports along the front as well as fun, vibrant bars, restaurants and cafés. Getting to Lloret de Mar It can be quite a challenge to get public transport from Barcelona Airport to Lloret – there is no direct train and, even if you change, you will still need to get a bus from Blanes. The coach is a long trawl and can be hard to book if you don’t speak Spanish.
