Another digital SLR comparison? This time it's Canon 60D vs Canon Rebel T2i. Canon has done something different with the development and release of the 60D. The name "Canon 60D" really belongs to a model that is an upgrade of the Canon 50D, but the 60D does not fit that spot. Since this is genuinely NOT an upgrade in the strictest sense when you think about the definition of upgrade. But wait. If you really think about the position in the marketplace that the new 60D is filling, it does fit that spot. Engineers have been operating overtime throughout the past year, and it is apparently paying off "in spades" as the Canon T2i and the Canon 7D have done exceedingly well against all competition. The Canon 60D vs Rebel T2i is an interesting comparison, to say the least. Taking into consideration the additional price of the 60D, it is of particular note that it shares the same 18mp sensor and body construction as the Rebel T2i, yet there are a number of benefits that are significant enough to increase the worth of the newer DSLR. Just wanted to mention here that video is not one of those added benefits, because the T2i also has great video quality. However, Canon has evidently made video a priority in their new DSLRs. In fact, all three digital SLR cameras in the entry level to semi-pro categories have the same high quality video capabilities. That being said, there is one added feature to the video package of the 60D. It is an improved audio input system which allows for dual stereo input. An articulating 3" LCD screen puts the 60D in a class all its own. This is a first for Canon DSLRs. It is a real plus when capturing video and for shooting from unusual positions like really low to the ground or above the head. Continuous image capture is yet another plus for the 60D vs T2i. The 60D has a frame rate of 5.3 fps vs 3.7 fps in the Rebel. This is significant when shooting things like sports. Are you one who has difficulty getting your photos straight? If so, the new electronic level in the viewfinder of the 60D will make your photographic life complete. Both the Rebel T2i and the 60D have 9 point auto focus control. However, there is now cross-type auto focus for each of the 9 points in the 60D, while the T2i has only one cross-type auto focus point. Another plus for the new kid on the block. Wireless flash control and improved control called auto-ISO which makes it easier to change ISO settings on the fly round out the most significant improvements in the Canon 60D. The Canon Rebel T2i is extremely popular right now, especially among photographers who are seeking an entry level digital SLR camera. Excellent image quality is just one of many reasons for the popularity of the T2i. Just check the user satisfaction at the online stores to see that the Rebel T2i is among the best sellers in the digital SLR category. This is one purchase where you are automatic a win. And now the Canon 60D appears to be targeting the same market. Whereas the 50D was aimed at the semi-pro market, the 60D has been downgraded in certain areas (like body construction and continuous shooting rate) so that semi-pros may no longer be interested.
