If you walk into your hairdresser and simply tell them you want layers in your hair, you're leaving a lot to fate. There are different kinds of layers that are used to create different looks. While your stylist may attempt to coax some more information from you, the end result may not be what you were hoping for. You can't always blame your stylist if you get an unflattering haircut. They are not mind readers, so you need to be specific about what you are looking for. Do you want subtle depth and volume? Are you partial to crisp, straight lines? Or are you yearning for a tousled and messy look? Learning the language of layers will make your next cut and style a better experience, and you will leave with the look you wanted. Leaving your hairstylist to make an educated guess based on one word answers and mumbles, generally results in a bad hair style. If your hair is long, you can ask for long layers. However, the type of layers can be blunt, which clearly shows a staggering of hair, or wispy so it creates activity in your hair. If you want hair that hangs straight, your stylist will use only scissors to create the long layers along the bottoms of your hair. Using a razor however, will give your more bounce and a tousled look. You can also choose to have different lengths of layers to create a messy look. This is great for wavy hair, as the layers will reduce the weight of your hair and allow it to bounce and flow. Short hair can have scissored layers or razor layers too. Blunt cuts are often layered with scissors, while subtle angles and wisps can be achieved with a razor. The best suggestion when planning for layers is to find pictures of styles that you like and take them to your hairdresser with you. Explain in detail the type of style you want: clean, straight, messy or chunky; and find out how the stylist will create this look. Communication is the cornerstone of good hair days, so don't be shy with the stylist, or you'll walk away a disgruntled customer. Discover more gorgeous beauty tips and advice at our beauty website.
