In the last few years, there has been a huge influx of CFL bulbs available on the market. You can get CFL bulbs that come in a variety of shapes, sizes, wattages, colors, and used for all applications you would need them for around the home or office. Most CFL bulbs will come with a standard base, which means they will be compatible with most of the existing fixtures around your home. In a standard or medium base you can find CFL bulbs that come in wattages from 5 watt (25-watt incandescent equivalent) to 25 watts (100-watt incandescent equivalent). The CFL bulbs also come in a variety of shapes such as spiral, globe, torpedo, and candle to use in decorative pieces like chandeliers. You can even get CFL bulbs to fit your bathroom and vanity fixtures for a seamless look when you transition over. Also available on the market are colored CFL bulbs so you can create a custom lighting plan around the home. You can also get Fluorescent bulbs which will give off the same kind of light as the day light to create a natural look in your home. Soft, pink colored bulbs are commonly found around restaurants and public restrooms because they are known to enhance the look of objects in the room. CFL bulbs that create a yellow light are hard for insects to see, so it is appropriate to use these where lots of people gather. One of the most common types of CFL bulbs, reflector bulbs, are used in recessed lights and are widely popular in residential applications. Reflectors use a fraction of the amount of energy that traditional bulbs around the home do so they end up saving lots of energy and money. These CFL bulbs come in various sizes and wattages to adapt to the specific needs of the home owner. Today technology for CFL bulbs have come so far that you can hook up your fluorescent bulbs to a dimming switch to customize how you want your lighting around the home to be. Candelabra based CFL bulbs also have a screw-in base but also have a smaller footprint than a standard base. These kinds of CFL bulbs are typically used in decorative wall sconces and, ceiling fan fixtures, and chandeliers in the dining room or entry way. Mogul base CFL bulbs have a larger base specific to certain types of fixtures that require bulbs with higher wattages, typically outdoor lights. Pin base CFL bulbs have pins for a base, as their name suggests which plugs into an electrical socket, as opposed to screwing one into a socket. As you can see, there are a variety of CFL bulbs available to you that you can use all over your home for every application. By switching over to CFL bulbs not only will you be helping the planet, but you will be helping yourself save money on utilities as well. If you plan to switch over to fluorescent bulbs, take a good inventory of every kind you will need before you go to the store.
