Stacked dryers were once only considered for tight spaces. With the increase in popularity of front-load washers, however, stacked dryers are also becoming more and more popular. If you are shopping for stacked dryers, you already know there are many makes and models to choose from. Here is a basic guide to stacked dryers that will help you compare models and find one that best fits your needs and budget without making your bank account run dry! Like their stand alone counterparts, stacked dryers are either gas powered or electric powered. If your home is already plumbed for gas it will probably be more cost effective to stick with a gas operated model. Otherwise, electric stacked dryers are probably the best option as they tend to be more energy efficient. Most electric dryers require a special 240-volt power outlet. Some of the more compact models only require a standard 110-volt outlet, however. Be sure to check your outlet capabilities before making your final purchase. While it is still a consideration when shopping for stacked dryers, the setup of your laundry room may not be as important as you think. Many stacked dryers are equipped with optional rear, left or right venting options giving you more flexibility with the placement. Condensation dryers have ventless exhaust. They air travels through a heat exchanger and is recycled rather than being vented outside. The size listed on stacked dryers refers to the width. Most standard washers and dryers are 27inches wide; the same is true for stacked dryers. Compact units typically run 24 inches wide. The wider the dryer, the more capacity it will boast. The capacity of stacked dryers is measured in cubic feet. Smaller models will only have two or three cubic feet, while larger models can accommodate upwards of seven or eight cubic feet. The size you choose will ultimately depend on how much space you have in your laundry room or closet, as well as how much laundry you do on a regular basis. Stacked dryers usually have the control panel of the front of the machine. There are models with rotary mechanical controls and some with electronic touch controls as well. The type you choose will depend on the quality of the machine and the features it boasts. Stacked dryers offer many time-saving features. Most models have at least three basic temperature settings for delicates, cotton, and permanent press. Many stacked dryers also offer a setting specifically for towels and another for heavy duty items. Higher end models also boast settings that can sense the moisture level and automatically adjust the drying time. Stacked dryers with steam settings allow you to sanitize items that are not washable, such as decorative throw pillows and stuffed animals. Using a steam setting also reduces wrinkles and odors. There are many things to consider when shopping for stacked dryers. As with any major purchase you should research the available options and how they will fit your needs. Look for reliable, brand name stacked dryers that have extended warranties.
