When you book your COSTA DEL SOL HOLIDAYS be sure and pack your sun cream as this area is well known for its mile upon mile of vast white sandy beaches that are gently caressed by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, creating an idyllic setting. There are a number of reasons people flock here in the millions each year but the most important one is the excellent year round climate. The present government has made a concerted effort to revitalize this place in recreating natural landscapes while only allowing low rise structures. This area has been able to retain its Spanish atmosphere with an international taste making it a good holiday haven. When planning your trip to the Costa del Sol, more than likely your entry point will be the international airport of Malaga. This ancient town also has an impressive cruise port that has been transformed over the years. Most people arrive at the airport and never make it into town, which is a big mistake as this town has a lot to offer in the way of history. While retaining its history it has created a shopping area with its main street converted to pedestrian traffic, only so that you can shop without worrying about getting hit by a car. There are now a number of malls in the new pedestrian area that have cafes and creative sculptures for you to enjoy. Located in the town centre is the outstanding Picasso Museum where you will find hundreds of original works hanging on the walls by this famous artist. Another place to visit on the Costa del Sol is the home of the rich and famous otherwise known as Marbella. You can spend the day relaxing on the nearby wide beach or peruse the many tapas bars where you can sample the local Spanish dishes. When you approach Marbella you can't help but notice the Moorish influences along with its oldie world Spanish charm that it has been able to retain over the centuries. Just down the road is Porto Banus; this little place is worth a visit if only to see the multimillion dollar yachts moored in the harbour. This stylish yet artsy marina is a good place to spend the day daydreaming about what you could have. What else would you expect in this upmarket town but some really expensive jewellery shops, chic boutiques and high dollar nightclubs? Golfers are also catered for if they venture over to the far west end of Marbella where the championship courses are located. If you don't have the money to live in Marbella or Porto Banus, then nearby is Torremolinos where there are already a lot of foreigners residing. The international flavour of Torremolinos is obvious as you will not hear a lot of Spanish being spoken as you stroll along the streets; mostly you will hear English. Having said this, the breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains that decline dramatically towards the sea makes it worth the visit and once you see the beaches overshadowed by the cliffs you will be captivated. The one place on your COSTA DEL SOL HOLIDAYS that you need to put at the top of your list of places to visit is the city of Nerja. It’s here that you will find the amazing Balcon de Europa promenade with its fantastic views. While you are in Nerja, don't pass up the opportunity to visit the caves containing Palaeolithic paintings or the Cueva de Nerja home to the Cro-Magnon man.
