Something that I have been thinking about for a few weeks now is the possibility of coaching to take my game to the next level. I really think that it would do wonders for my game but at the same time spending that kind of money is a risk if I don’t improve! Even the guys at the cheaper end of the spectrum charge as much as $50/hour – which is of course a full buy in for me at 50NL. I guess the question I need to ask myself is; how seriously do I want to take poker? If the answer is yes then I guess $50/hour is a snip, although the problem for me is that I am a creature of habit so I will want more coaching which will mean more money and higher rates down the line. The cheaper option for me I guess is training videos; most of the sites around are available for as little as $30 per month. But I’m so unsure about this option in this day and age, I’m not sure that most of these coaches can still beat the games they play. Although an obvious counter argument is can the guy I’m paying $50/hour beat the games? I mean anyone can knock together a graph that would make them look like a good winner. I know it sounds like I’m a huge cynic and I don’t trust anyone who might coach me, but I have been scammed in the past (can’t go into details sadly) and believe me you can never be too careful. Bringing in a poker coach will be a huge step for me if I choose to take it, but it’s an idea that excites me and truthfully I do think my mind is already made up and I’m just being a nit and putting off paying the money. I hope that after a few months’ worth of coaching I will be able to step up to 100NL as one of my goals has always been to be playing 200NL in a year – so obviously I must hit 100nL first! I know this has been a boring post and I apologise for just rambling about coaches and not poker. I will do everything I can do ensure my next post is more interesting and actually has more about poker in it! Take it easy.
