Backyard lime, or agricultural lime, is a useful material in Chicken Coops. Lime reduces the smell and moisture level in the coops. However, lime is not a reserve for regularly cleaning the manure and bedding in the coop. You should also always cover the lime with bedding, as it is an irritant when it comes in direct contact with the chickens. Lime is made from crushed limestone or chalk. If you are unsure which product to use, ask your veterinarian or feed store clerk for a commendation. Fresh the chicken coops before put lime in it. Aspen the chickens out of the chicken coops while you are apply the lime to keep them from getting any directly on them. Sprinkle a thin coating of lime on the floor of the coops by hand or with a small measure. Wear gloves when you handle the lime. Cover the floor with your regular bedding material. Consent to the chickens reverse into the coops. Sprinkle lime about once a week against areas where compost builds such as under the roost. Instantly cover the lime with more blankets.
