Knowing how this works can help you to get a better understanding of the radio control helicopter and which one is right for the person you are shopping for. The main thing to remember when you are looking at the channels the RC helicopter has is that the more channels that it has, the more things that the copter can do. When you only have one channel, often times, this just controls the forward and back movement of the copter. Other channels can be used to help the helicopter go higher or lower, to go side to side, rotate the copter or even in some cases help it to do tricks like twist. The features of the channels are by the manufacturer, so there are no set features with 3 or 4 channel RC helicopters. There are some radio control helicopters that can have as many as 6 channels on them, which can make them do really amazing things. However, if you are thinking about getting one like this for the person you are buying for, there are a few things you should think about. One is that the more channels the helicopter has, the more it will cost (generally, though this may not always be the case). More importantly, the more channels the helicopter has, the more work that is involved in flying it. This is why you want to make sure that you get one that will be at the right age level for the child, as one that it too complicated will be frustrating. A radio control helicopter is fun for many reasons and the child you buy it for will be sure to have hours of fun with it. When you are buying one though, make sure that you pay attention to the channels that it has as well as the age range. Usually 3 channels is easy for a child and 4 is good for a teen. Another important piece of information is that special features, such as lights or video cameras are not operated on the channels, only the movement of the helicopter itself.
