Still, you probably don't have treats everywhere you go when you aren't "officially" training your dog. Hugging or patting your dog is a good way to replace treats. When it comes to training your dog, never give up. Without reinforcement, your dog will revert to his old behaviors. Training never ends. It is an important part of taking care of your dog. Training depends on consistency. When you are training your dog, be mindful of the time spent in one session. A long, uninterrupted training period is going to exhaust your dog's attention. Training sessions should be limited to about 10 minutes of time or less. Make sure your teething puppy has a bunch of chew toys readily available to him, and keep other things he likes to chew on away from him. You should replace the object with a chew toy as soon as this occurs so your dog understands what is okay to chew on. Try a frozen washcloth to alleviate the pain of teething for your puppy. Make sure you take your dog through a step-by-step process when teaching it anything complex. For example, you might want to train your dog to retrieve the newspaper every morning. The first step is learning to hold something. Next, your dog will need to learn the object's name. Next, teach him to pick up your paper. Lastly, you should teach him to bring the item to you. Separating the commands allows a better understanding of the process for your dog. If you have a large dog, and he likes to stretch out, get the dog a big bed. You can buy large beds for your dog, or crib mattresses also work well. This may be beneficial as you are able to replace covers simply by adding new crib sheets. They're waterproof, too! If you have to go to work, or something else that will keep you out of the house for more than a few hours, take your dog for a long walk before you leave. Not only do you want your dog to relieve himself, but you also want to make him tired so he relaxes and doesn't suffer from anxiety while you're gone. Check over your doge before taking it to the veterinarian. Gently run your hands across his whole body, and praise him for calm behavior. Also, perform mock examinations on teeth and paws. Ask some of your family and friends to assist you with this. A harness is less bothersome to your dog, but also prevents you from exercising control when you need to do so. If you use a harness and a collar together, you can show your dog how to behave when he is only wearing the harness. You will find dogs are simply dogs. Allow for activities that let him be himself and have fun. Dogs require a nutritious diet, space to run in and activities and toys to keep them busy. Spaying or neutering your dog is recommended at six months of age. This should happen before you start obedience classes. When your dog is spayed or neutered, it is a nicer pet and is better at obedience. Your dog will be a better companion after training and this will lead to a better life overall for the animal. Try introducing a clicker to reinforce great behavior.
