The concept of permaculture Sustainable living is a new concept that is slowly catching up with the youth. Even organizations with social commitment are contributing towards this by arranging bike tours across the country. Youths take part in such bicycle tours, travel across the country and in the process learn most of the things about how permaculture helps in sustainable living. Youths are so much taken to this concept that many organizations are conducting regular courses about sustainable living and means of ensuring it through proper permaculture design. Permaculture is a science applicable to every aspect of society, intended to create a very good quality of life for everyone. It ensures highest value is gained from the smallest expenditure of natural resources. In the process an attempt is made to preserve the natural resources for the future generation. These elementary principles are incorporated in permaculture design. The design ensures that the natural resources are replenished much faster than the rate at which we consume it. Common design elements that help in permaculture are rainwater harvesting, agro forestry, natural buildings, animals, gray water use, energy and sheet mulching. Each one of these elements helps sustainable living in their own way. How Permaculure Ensures Better Quality of Life By incorporating small changes in the way we live, quality of life can be improved to a great extent. This may be to design the building in such a way that natural light and heat conditions are maximized through passive solar buildings. This reduces consumption of scarce resources like petroleum products. By incorporating small changes in what we do for living also helps improve the quality of life. For example rainwater harvesting replenishes underground water resources. In the absence of harvesting much of the rain water would have flowed in to sea, which would have been a waste. Permaculture helps in soil regeneration and land restoration through minimized deforestation and growing more forests and such other measures. Bringing Awareness through Bicycle Tours Most of the bike tours offer hands on experience about the benefits of permaculture. Travelling the countryside on a bicycle along with experienced cyclists gives you a wonderful experience and at the same time teaches you plenty of things about sustainable living. Before the start of the tour a short course about permaculture is conducted, so that the participants know the basics of what permaculture is all about. During these bicycle tours the participants visit organic farms, visit eco-villages and other instructive places which highlight sustainable living. The participants learn about organic farming and its benefits and how to preserve scarce natural resources, to name a few.
