A brochure is a publicity material used by marketing and commercial concerns to create awareness about a particular product or highlight any outstanding event. It is an essential marketing tool used universally across nations and communities for promotional purpose. A good brochure design is a combination of art and functionality that serves the purpose of putting your ideas across in simple language and attractive images. This publicity material is printed on good quality paper and has several formations such as pamphlet, single-fold, bi-fold, tri-fold, Z-fold, gate fold and so on. Of all these, pamphlet design is among the more popular because of its simplicity, convenience and easy handling.

The most important aspect in designing of brochures is their format. These formats depend on the purpose of the publicity material being used. For general information such as organization of an exhibition, or opening a shopping a pamphlet is perfect. For the launch of a new car, a single fold format is perfect, while for a multi-product brand a Z-fold formation could be perfect. A gatefold design seems perfect for a fancy product such as a baby’s dress while a catalogue is ideal for a shopping mall or paint company.

A vital feature in publicity materials is use of white space. This is often an overlooked aspect in most leaflets and other point of sales materials. It must be understood that enough white space should be allowed for highlighting he most important subject in your catalogue. White not only allows the principal subject to stand out but also makes your scripts appear neater and sharp. Space left out is often the areas that catch attention of buyers.

After allowing for clear or white space it is time to decide on the colour combinations for your brochure. Colour not only is a reflection of your aesthetic choice but also an expression of feeling. Bright shades such as pink, yellow, or orange are ideal for baby items. Likewise, grey or blue for office items, and green or red for ladies items could be wise choices. Colour selection is vital for any catalogue irrespective of its format.

Selection of paper forms another crucial factor in appearance of your publicity material. Thickness and texture are qualities determining the paper you use. For flyers, paper quality is not of a superior quality, whereas in catalogues, they are thicker and longer lasting. For bi-fold, tri-fold, and Z-fold brochures glossy paper is usually used.

A standing out aspect of your publicity handout is its print quality. Type fonts should be neat, crisp and legible. Language used should be lucid and easily understood by an average customer. It must be remembered that many of your buyers are of average intelligence and language used should be likewise. A brochure design company always is particular of its print quality. This is the most easily recognised aspect of your handout. This equally applies for pamphlet design.
