Zithromax is an antibiotic drug. It contains Azithromycin as its main active ingredient. It belongs to a group of drugs called macrolide antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections. In case of overdose of Zithromax, patients should immediately seek medical assistance. Its overdose symptoms are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach discomfort. Use of antibiotics such as Zithromax could cause diarrhoea, which indicates another infection. In that case patient should stop using it and consult their doctor. Patients with history of a heart rhythm disorder or prolonged QT syndrome should not use Zithromax. It can worsen the condition of the patient. Zithromax may cause QT prolongation. Patients suffering from heart failure, slow heartbeat, QT prolongation in the EKG, family history of certain heart problems are at higher risk.
