These inks are also suitable for marking all the food items which require direct placing of the health stamp on the food material. These are available in many colors however black ink is universally preferred. These inks are generally available in liquid form but a powdered form can also be demanded if transportation of the ink is involved in the whole process. This powdered form is then mixed with water to make it suitable for use. The desired features of a meat marking ink are: • Visibility: The stamp should be clearly visible on the food product. For ensuring visibility, it should be available in various colors especially dark ones so that consumers can easily identify between the healthy and unhealthy products.
• Safety: The ink should be made from eatable substances only so that it can be consumed. If it is itself unhealthy and made from synthetic colors, then there is no question of marking the food with it.
• Fast action: The inks should exhibit a fast absorbing action so as to get easily penetrated into the surface and provide long term visibility.
• Endurance: The mark should be able to retain stability on the marked item so that even if it is transported or packed tightly for avoiding moisture and germs entering in, the health mark permanently remains at it. Nowadays people have become very much aware of the quality of food they eat. They have a good understanding of the health marks indicated on various food items and buy only marked food. The food marking agencies have laid down many specifications of the food items to be checked before a food is classified as safe to be consumed. They have also set up certain rules for laying down all the precautions during making of the marking ink and the marking process to sustain the quality of the food items.
