Syrian foreign ministry on Tuesdaydeclared diplomats of some countries are "persona non grata", inretaliation to similar moves by some European countries towardsSyria's envoys, according to a statement emailed to Xinhua. The targeted countries include the United States, Britain, Germany,France and Italy. Meanwhile, more than 13 countries had recently expelled Syria'sdiplomatic mission in protest of the massacre that struck thecentral village of Houla last week and claimed the lives of morethan 100 people, mostly children and women. The international community was quick to blame the Syriangovernment and pro-government militia for the carnage. Syria,however, has denied any involvement in the massacre and placed theblame on opposition fighters and extremist groups. The Syrian government said the massacre was waged by in the handsof the opposition that aimed to tarnish and frame the Syriangovernment ahead of the visit of special envoy Kofi Annan and theUN Security Council's meeting on the crisis. Meanwhile, the foreign ministry said that Syria still believes inthe importance of dialogue based on equality and stressed diplomacyis a necessary tool to establish communication between countries inorder to resolve all issues and bring back relations to normalcy.
