A blog can either be something personal or something of business and the difference can be huge although the two can be successfully combined. In recent years blogging has become a tool of business for people to make money from through selling advertisement, products and or even services. In my opinion this really is a change for the positive and good way to leverage the Internet and the masses that use it to be able to make a living from home. So is it money that you want to make from your blog? This is the biggest question to ask yourself when your setting out in the world of blogging. This is the biggest thing to consider before you start because you will need to determine the market value of your niche before you get started on that venture. Like a business you’ll need to be able to assess the size of the market and the amount of money that you stand to make. Some niches have huge audiences like self-development and fitness, which make them also very profitable, but on the other hand there are some niches that only have small audiences, which can make them difficult to make money from. Once you have answered this question you can then start to look at different markets and determine the value. The easiest way to make money from a site is through pay per click advertisement provided by ad networks such as Google AdSense. These companies target your reader by their internet browsing history rather than what you are showing on your site which means even if no one advertises within the niche that you write about you can still make money, however the one thing to remember is that you still need a large number of people to go through your site for you to be able to make good money. To determine a size of a niche I usually use a keyword tool provided also by Google which allows me to see the number of searches a specific keyword or phrase has within my niche which gives me an indication of the number f people interested in that topic and the potential traffic that I could see go through my site. This is really important before starting, as you’ll be able to gauge the number of potential people that you can target. Like a business you need to know these figures because if you are starting a blog in a niche that does not have a very big audience you don’t stand a chance of making it online. If you are starting a blog just as hobby or you want to practice your writing don’t worry too much about the audience size as it’s going to be used as more of a personal development tool. However if you’re thinking big picture then make sure you look into the topic you are choosing to write about and also the potential audience size that you have to be able to reach with your blog. Once you are ready to start a blog find your self a good step by step tutorial for starting your blog, make sure the tutorial will also take you through selecting a topic and a name for your new venture so you can get started successfully.
