When booking your HOLIDAY RENTALS IN SPAIN for the express purpose of searching out the numerous varieties of olives produced in Spain, you might have to venture a little further afield than the usual coastal resorts. The different varieties of olives grown in Spain equates to the micro-climates that exist throughout the country which in turn produces a variety of oils. Two interesting examples of olive oil include Picual whose characteristic body has a light bitter sweet flavour from the mountainous region of Granada while the sweeter oils with a light spicy flavour known as Hojiblanca are from Malaga. Of all the regions that produce olive oil we will be taking a look at the two largest areas in terms of production. The region responsible for the largest production of olive oil is Andalucia which amounts to 75 percent of the country's total production. This production is spread over the eight provinces making Andalucia the second largest land area in Spain. With such a diverse area it stands to reason that there are a number of micro-climates typical of the Mediterranean region. These diverse climates include desert areas up to the mountains with a high rainfall; then there is the snow encircled mountains down to a large coast with an irregular precipitation. Along with the micro-climates some areas enjoy over three thousand hours of sunlight each year. Within Andalucia the provinces of Jaen and Cordoba produce the most olive oil; as a matter of fact, Jaen produces more olive oil than all of Greece. Andalucia is home to a number of different olives including Picual, Hojiblanca, Lechin, Verdial and Picudo. The next area of importance on a day out from your HOLIDAY RENTALS IN SPAIN is Castilla La Mancha situated in the middle of the peninsula. It is responsible for the production of approximately 14 percent of the nation's olive oil all of which is derived from the five provinces it includes. The continental climate is influenced by the increasing altitude of 1,000 metres above sea-level for the most part disallows rainfall although the Atlantic region causes an increase in rainfall. For an experience you will not soon forget take the Route of the Olives in Valencia. It covers some so the most beautiful areas in Spain which will come into view as you walk down the disused railway tracts used for walkways today as well as for cycling. Along the way through countryside full of olive trees you will stop at age old olive oil pressing facilities where you can sample and bring home some excellent olive oil.
