One thing which has been a constant in our lives for the past 15 years since our marriage has been wanderlust. Everything around us has changed; we are now a family of 4 from 2, friends have migrated to countries we never imagined they would go to, parents are no more with us, we have changed companies as frequently as we change our underwear and Latika (my wife) is now heading a travel firm where she joined as an awkward teenager looking after their accounts sheets. One thing, though, in all this madness has never changed and that is our penchant for being outdoors and taking a time out, twice a year to explore and endure, which has made us what we are today – global citizens, informed personalities and empathizing humans. This year had to be different. It was the 15th year of our being together and this was endurance of a totally different nature ? Latika had made it amply clear that this year had to be about wildlife and going green because the last 14 had seen us traversing standard destinations, which were never any lesser in beauty and magnificence but this year had to have a theme as opposed to unplanned wandering we were used to prior to this. And as I was deliberating where to go and what to see, I had a flash of light telling me what I had to see this year: The Royal Bengal Tiger. The beautiful beast had gripped our imagination ever since I and Latika came out of the theatre watching The Life of Pi and tigers had taken hold of our significant mindshare. Conveying the thought to Latika was just an exercise in formality as no sooner had I suggested tiger watching, she was doing a “Yes, Yes...we have to do it!” So here we were looking up Google and finding our agencies conducting a safari in India and after some quick clicks zeroed down to Sharad, a veteran in India Safari circles, for he had overseen 1000+ safaris and he was a charm to talk to, for he knew everything about the nooks and crannies of the mighty jungles of Kanha and Bandhavgarh, where he told us that there are maximal chances of tiger sighing because of their relatively smaller sizes and denser tiger population. Our tiger tour India was on. It is now time to check my dreaded office mail and reply to some angry clients for I am behind my work schedule. The next post would talk about the journey from Bristol to the divine jungles of Kanha and Bandhavgarh and how this was the best therapy I and Latika undertook in a decade. Stay tuned to this space!
