Teenagers have to grapple with several issues at a time. They undergo hormonal changes along with the psychological responsibility of growing up and becoming independent. Academic workload and peer pressure keep them on their toes at all times. With so many things to cope with, they have to establish priorities. However, because of their limited experience, they may en up putting good eating habits at the bottom of the list. It was only through mobile phone monitoring software that concerned parents were able to track this deficiency and know why their children keep gaining weight. With the information obtained from call and message logs, parents were able to better guide and monitor the eating habits of their teenagers. Some of the bad habits they discovered are: 1. Skipping Meals: Since bad eating habits do not show immediate side effects, teenagers consider those habits insignificant. Skipping breakfast because they are late for school is a good example. Many teenagers even miss lunch or dinner to attend important (to them) activities. Parents need to guide their children in case their teenagers are skipping meals, especially if they suspect they might be a symptom of an eating disorder. 2. Unhealthy Eating: “Food for nutrition” is the last thing that can come to an adolescent’s mind. Convenience and taste is the deciding factor for them rather than the nutritional value of the meal. Many teenagers replace their meals with sandwiches, fast food, soda, energy drinks, and, sadly, alcohol when they can get it. They use the “saved” times for social activities, homework, family gatherings, and sports. 3. Over/under Eating: Over-eating invites obesity. Under-eating risks invites malnutrition. Most teenagers prefer to eat over-sized meals right in front of TV and become couch potatoes. They pay little attention to healthy food. They hardly exercise. On the other hand, many teenagers (especially girls) are too image-conscious. They want to have the perfectly thin body and in order to do that, they don't eat full meals. They obsess about the calorie count and eventually hurt their bodies. So how exactly can a mobile phone monitoring application help improve the situation? The best practice for the parents is to set healthy examples themselves. Then they should help their teenagers prioritize their goals in life. Finally, monitoring their children's eating habits with the program can let parents know if their children are following good eating habits, and if not, they will know why.
