Making the same meals every day can be oppressively boring. Make things more interesting by acquiring new skills and trying new recipes. After all, cooking not only creates a nourishing meal, but it can be a pleasurable activity with something new to uncover at every turn. Here are some fun new tips that you can try in the kitchen tonight.

Stir-fry recipes require meat to be sliced very thin and at an angle to the grain. This can be a very time consuming and somewhat difficult procedure. Retrieve the meat after it has firmed a bit, and cut thin slices across the grain, holding your knife at a 45-degree angle to the cutting board.

By doing any prep work the day before a big meal, you can make the actual cooking process faster and less stressful. Look at your recipe and decide which steps you can do in advance without worry of food spoilage. You can make a lot of your preparations a day or more in advance. You can turn a fancy meal into a fast, fun meal that can be cooked in a flash!

They behave like sponges and absorb the water. Get a wet cloth instead, and wipe off each mushroom by hand.

The one downside of garlic is that your hands easily absorb the smell of it. An easy way to remove the smell is to rub your hands on a stainless steel surface like your sink. This will take care of the odors clinging to your hands and enable you to handle other ingredients without contaminating them with strong aromas.

Use airtight containers for flour, sugar and baking mixes in the kitchen. These sorts of containers will help keep all of your foods fresh and safe from bugs. It is possible to buy these containers almost anywhere and they are well worthwhile.

If you want to make chicken stock, you might as well make a lot of it. If you cook a big pot of stock, you can freeze it for later. This stock is a popular base that can be used in a variety of dishes, from soups to casseroles and much more. Allow the stock to cool, then split it up into heavy duty Ziploc freezer bags.

If you choose the wooden versions of cooking skewers, it is a good idea to immerse them in water, and leave them there for about half an hour before using them. That way, they will not burn during the cooking process. Try using two skewers parallel to one another instead of just one skewer.

This keeps fruits fresh for months. An added bonus is that you are going to be able to eat fruit that is not in season and is therefore unavailable elsewhere during certain periods.

Disperse spices and seasoning to your favorite food in small, equal increments over time. This technique will give you a lot more flavor for the same amount of seasoning, giving you tastier food without wasting ingredients.

Get the freshest garlic you can when making a dish that you must add garlic to. Generally, garlic will taste sweeter if it's fresher. To choose the freshest garlic, keep away from any cloves that are bruised, soft or have skins that feel too firm.

When preparing a large family dinner, do some prep work the night before to decrease stress and leave time for you to enjoy everyone. Plan ahead by chopping veggies or readying a marinade the night before. Your stress levels will be lessened, and you will be more ready to whip up your meal!

Replace your spices every six months at the very least. If spices are kept open for too long a time, they will eventually lose their flavor. If you don't use a spice very often, and it will go bad before you have to replace it, give some to family and friends.

By using these tips, you can start a new hobby. Turn cooking into an enjoyable and appetizing way to educate yourself on the fascinating topic of food. You can even learn about yourself, as you learn what you love to cook. As you start to get more pleasure out of cooking, you will notice that it is enjoyable and helps you cook tastier dishes.
