How to write a good resume? The Resume is nothing but a tool to win an interview, an outlet of a person’s educational and professional history. More or less resume works as an advertisement, it does not tell interviewer what you have done but makes the same assertion that all good ads do. So resume must be solid and effective to improve your chances of landing that dream job. Many people write resume as if the purpose of the document to land a job and they write long and boring history of their own. Keep in mind that objective of the resume is to grab the interview. Many of us do not know how the resume should be? What are the required details? And so on. I will give you some hints to write a good and attractive resume. Points to be consider before you start writing resume • Use effective titles • Put the important information first • Explain about your skills • Avoid negative information • Do not include irrelevant information • Make design flow with white space • No pictures • For listing purpose use bullet points How to write a good resume • Put your strongest achievements and qualifications at the top of your resume. • Use highlights section to catch hiring person’s attention • Include only relevant job experience • Make use of an eye catching and easy to read format • Include headings, bold point and bullets • Include your skills neatly and relevant experience on specific skill • Try to reduce over writing as much as you can • Resume must look simple and attractive Required information to write simple and attractive resume ? Personal details Normally these would include your name, address, date of birth, telephone number and email. ? Education and qualifications A summary of your education, starting with your most recent studies, include college and university name and percentage. ? Work experience Start with your most recent work history followed by previous companies, list the name of the employer, your job title, the dates you worked there, and your responsibilities, tasks and achievements. Make sure you include all experience that's relevant to the job you're applying for. If you don’t have experience, mention about the training you have done relevant to the job applying. ? Skills and abilities Make a list of the things you're good at. These can be general skills or skills specific to a particular job. ? Interests and achievements Use bullets to list your interests and achievements. Include area of interest and achievements you have done regarding about the education. Don't put solitary hobbies like reading, watching TV, stamp collecting etc. Don’t add your achievement as; I was the captain of the school/college cricket team. Add educational achievements. ? Referees Normally two referees are sufficient: one academic and one from an employer. Provide names who can talk about how good a worker you are; don’t forget to get their permission before including them on your resume. List their name, company name occupation, and contact details.
