Started out as a tiny market stall on Portobello Road in London, by three brothers, Nitin, Arun and Milan Shah in 1973, Pepe Jeans have transformed into a US billion dollar brand, growing to four stalls in London as a denim seller entering the jeans business and then opening their own boutique on Kings Road and by the 1980’s had achieved popularity in Europe as a leading brand in premium jeans and casual garments. They had no choice but to overshadow all the competition, and here four decades later with over 300 stores and 7000 vendors, they have continued to bring about a unique class and style to their jeans, true to their standard of creating denims that were directional and challenging fashion in a time where everything, including what you wore was suppressed by conformism. Surprised by their own success, the Shah’s soon realized that they were onto something huge, hitting the US market by 1984 as well as Ireland later that same year, they realized that they had a denim brand that would take the world on by a storm. They took to media coverage, because the brand name could no longer handle small time advertising, so they went all out by hiring the best photographer at that time, Bruce Weber, and with a little help from supermodel Bridget Hall, they created an ad that was a benchmark in the fashion world. They continued to build on their brand name with various celebrities walking out in their very own pair of denims from Pepe. They are among the likes of Alexa Chung, TV presenter and style guru, also Ashton Kutcher, Sienna Miller, Letitia Casta, and Cristiano Ronaldo are among a few who are devoted to the brand. With innovative and distinctive campaigns, they made their mark in the fashion advertising world and still continue to astound people. But regardless of the pomp and circumstance, they do not compromise on design, style and above all quality. Rooted out to other categories such as casual garments, footwear and accessories, they have proved time and again that their brand is premium denim, down to the fabric and every last stitch. They also pride themselves on their variety, right from boot cut to skinny jeans as well as their divergent colours.
