Trips to Machu Picchu: Once in a lifetime experience

Travel & Tourism
One of the most popular destinations in Peru, Machu Picchu was an ancient town or a hamlet that was built on a hill and had a river flowing below the hill. The 600-year-old village was the seat of Incan civilization and till now is one of the best kept villages in entire South America. It is also known as the ‘Lost City of the Incans’ and is probably one of the best icons which describe the Incans.

Machu Picchu now has become an important cultural site and heritage for the Peruvians and Trips to Machu Picchu are a must for the people who want to have a time of their life in this historic place in Peru. The Incan city was built in the classic Incan style and in the year 1500 AD, but 100 years later the city was abandoned basically because of the Spanish conquest.

When you decide to travel to Machu Picchu, you would have to keep a few things in mind. For instance, you would need to check into the hotels much before the trip. This is because Machu Picchu is a very busy tourist destination and there are reservations and bookings all the time here. As a result, the hotels too are booked and if you do not get your bookings in advance, you will end up not having a place to stay here.

Most people come for Hiking Machu Picchu. Since, this place is located on the hill; the best way to reach here is on foot. This way you will not only get a chance to see the natural beauty of hills, but at the same time you will also be able to experience Machu Picchu up close and personal.

In order to reach Machu Picchu, you will have to take a train from the capital city. Here, you will have to get down at the train station known as Ollantaytambo.

Before you climb up the hills to Machu Picchu, you will need to be well-equippedOllantaytambo has a small café where you can have your breakfast and climb to see the Incan ruins. The café also gives the travellers a chance to can buy walking sticks, goggles and caps which can come useful during the climb to Machu Picchu. The entire journey to the top of Machu Picchu will have to be made with the help of walking because there are no vehicles that lead to the top of the mountains.

There are buses available only till the base of the Machu Picchu Hill and beyond that, which is a climb of a thousand meters, you will have to make the journey on foot by yourself. The best time to travel to Machu Picchu is only during the summers. Because in winters, the steep climb becomes difficult for a number of climbers and it is also pretty unsafe. The hiking will last for several hours, but if you plan your trip to Machu Picchu in the right way, you will have the best possible time of your life.
